Stuck Inside

We woke up this morning and it was 25 below zero (F.). Fortunately, the superintendents used their senses and cancelled school for the -45 windchill, so George is home with us today. We're all staying inside as much as possible. Only George has been out to feed and water the chickens, and walk the dog 1/2 a block. Even the dog comes in shivering! This is a good day to finally show you the bathroom tile project-completed!And to let you see a little of what we've been doing homeschooling/life learning-wise:Some collage art with Rose.
Rootbeer making with Elijah.
Knitting hats for babies and playing games with our homeschool co-op friends. And refereeing the still-ongoing old cat and new puppy battles. (We've discovered, as if we didn't know it, that our cat is quite the b*tch!)

Ooh, and George and I just joined on facebook.com, so now we're reconnecting with lots of *old* friends. Are you on facebook? It's yet another online addiction...

Brr, sounds cold! But nice to have a day indoors every so often.

And yeah, facebook is addictive!

Love the tile work! A project soon in the works for me...last time my dad was down (a few weeks ago) he left me his wet saw for my project ;) I can't wait to get started! I just need to finish a few before I start that.

I *does* look cold there!

I have been avoiding Facebook like the plague :) Another thing to suck me in, lol!

Love green in bathrooms. Looks good.

Were you knitting for children in Guatemala, etc?

I am on facebook. I have a little widget on the side of my blog which, I believe, takes you to my facebook page.

We are dealing with the cold as well although my husband did have to go to work today.

It looks like you are beating cabin fever and having a good time.

Mon, I don't know where the hats are going, exactly. Someone in our group just gave us the pattern, and as I can't find it right now I can't see what the organization is. I forget!

It's nice to hear someone likes the green. It was the color the house came with, and luckily we could still buy tiles to (sort of) match the old ones. We had the tub installed like, um, almost 3 years ago and they had to take out the surrounding tiles so this was just a repair of that area. I like the green better now that I have a nice hemp shower curtain on the outside (it used to be the inside curtain, but it gets to stinky when wet...).

Good luck with the tiling, Jess. George did a great job, using your FIL's tile saw.

Yeah, facebook...ack!

You had even colder than we did! We were at -22 this morning. No school here and they've already called off for tomorrow as well since it is supposed to be near -20 overnight again. I did have to go in to work today but made V give me a ride. Even I'm not crazy enough to walk in this.
My daughter is on facebook but I've been avoiding it. Maybe someday... but I really don't need another distraction.

I like the green too! My aunt has a 1920's house that has a pink and black bathroom :-)

Facebook is addictive but then I get sick of it and quit for a long time. Then I get sucked in again. But in the end I like blogging much more!

Oh my, I can't even imagine a day that cold... I've only seen snow twice is my whole life.

The 7 Areas for Reduction

Today I want to write just a snippet on each of the 7 areas where we're reducing our consumption. See the Riot for Austerity page to learn more. 1. Electricity. No major sacrifices. We're still watching TV a little and I'm online way too much trying to keep up with this group (my latest obsession), but we're now turning both off at the power strip when they're not in use, instead of just at night when we go to bed. Also, many more appliances are getting unplugged when not in use. 2. Heating and Cooking Energy. We are using the a/c today due to temps in the 90s and very high humidity. That is my general rule for a/c use and always has been-it has to be over 90 degrees F. and humid. Tonight when the predicted cold front passes through we'll turn it off for at least the next week of predicted 80s. 3. Gasoline. I'm biking the 2.5 miles to work every time I work, Monday, Wednesday, Friday. George is biking the 3 miles to the health club for his aerobic w...

America a Military Police State--Now Obvious to Minnesotans

From my friend Devin's blog, The Quince Urban Homestead . They and others in the Twin Cities are much more aware of what's going on down there than we are an hour north. News reports are incomplete and, of course, skewed to the "need for order" and fear tactics. Of course we don't want violence, but come on! Has it come to this? This could be my family! Or anyone's family, simply doing their thing...Read on...(emphases are mine) Some links first: Youtube Video Twin Cities Daily Planet news with photo Flickr photos Happenings at the RNC here in St.Paul Minnesota.
