Happy Birthday Elijah!

On Easter Sunday, Eli turned 11.
Here are the clues to the search George sent him on to find his gift.

1. Yes there is a gift
That's too big for a box
To find it you need to be
Sly like a fox...

Just follow the steps
And your present you'll find
To begin just go pull down
A dining room blind

2. Good work, wise boy
You've found your first clue
By reading below
You'll know what to do...

Head up the stairs
The dark do not dread
And look in the spot
Where your mom lays her head!!

3. Your interest is baited
You've found the next clue
Don't get too frustrated
Here's what to do...

Walk down the stairs slowly
So you come to no harm
Find the coat dad was wearing
When he messed up his arm (ow!!)

4. You're right on track now
Don't miss this last hint
Or you might make an error
You'll wish that you didn't...

Your gift is awaiting
For targets, not attacks
You'll find it in a corner
Near your Uncle Pete's sax!!

And the clues led him to the basement closet where his
new bow and arrow set awaited him.

As you can imagine, he was very excited about his gift. Since we started homeschooling again, he and George have been going to a nearby SCA meeting every Monday night to practice the age-old art of archery. (Here's a link to a general "what is SCA?", which is the Society for Creative Anachronism. I don't know what it is either!) Elijah loves it, though!

And yes, George is a pretty creative guy. And heavily exposed to
Dr. Seuss at a formative age, I guess.
