When it comes time for the formal study of physics, Elijah will have such an intuitive knowledge of it. He has spent countless hours folding and flying paper airplanes, experimenting with different forms of propulsion like balloons. Airplanes are one of his passions!

Thursdays will be the day we go, which is practical since it's on the way to the YMCA, where Elijah and Rose have what is basically phy. ed. for homeschoolers every Thursday from 2-4 p.m. They love it. Right now they're playing softball mostly, and both kids have several friends also doing the program.
Today, both the library and softball came together in what was a "banner moment" for Rose and me. When I asked Rose what types of books she wanted to pick out, she said she would like to find some books on baseball and softball, so she could read about how to improve her game. Now, this might not be a big deal, but for a girl who professes to hate reading, I thought it was great progress. She is now thinking of books as tools for learning--yay! She has certainly seen this modeled over and over again, mainly by her mom and brother. We both tend to go to books first to learn about a subject.
So today, when Rose checked out some books on softball and another one on hairstyles to try, I was secretly smiling inside. I didn't want to make a big deal out of it in front of her, but I was so delighted she'd learned the secret I treasure. Books are good!
