Consider this my Valentine's wishes to all of you! We didn't get cards out this year...:(
I hope you're all enjoying lots of love and a little chocolate today. I think this is one of those days to be a little kinder to yourself. Have a treat, a bubble bath, some leisure time just for you.
Valentine's Day means so much more to me now that I have children. I never got into it much as a "lover's holiday", but to have my kids make me their own sweet Valentine card, and to spend some time doing something special for them is really wonderful. I'll spend some time making something sweet for George today too, and hope he remembers the chocolate!!!
Unfortunately, the kids and I are all "under the weather" today so that will limit the merriment a bit. Rose came down with the high fever, headache and "crud" yesterday. I gave her homeopathic Belladonna 30c from Hyland's all day; each dose helped ease the head pain and got her to sleep. By 3:00 p.m. she was perking up some but still today she has a slight fever and headache. She is sad to miss this afternoon's Valentine's Day party at school, but Daddy is bringing in her cards to give out and reassured her that he will bring home the ones in her box.
Rose has the "deliriousness" with the fever, which is an indication for Belladonna. When she sat up at 3 in the afternoon yesterday, she asked me "how did I get here? Did I sleep here all night?" And then last night she slept with me in bed and she kept wanting to get up and play house or do other things that were not happening in the middle of the night. She really didn't know where she was or what time it was at all! Strange. But she does get that way with a fever. For a while in the middle of the night I was worried that I'd given her too much Belladonna, as it is a psychotropic plant if you eat or use the plant in its material form, but then I came to my own senses and realized you really can't overdose on a homeopathic remedy as it is so extremely diluted. It's amazing how helpful it is, though!
Eli is still coughing and sleeping at this moment (8:15 a.m.), but he may be able to get to the party at school this afternoon. I think I'll call in sick, though, for work this afternoon. My nose is running and I'm coughing too. I can't believe I got it again! I have new resolve to use my neti pot every day--which I do like now that I'm used to it--, to take my Vit. C, and to keep eating healthy. (Though I don't think that piece of Double Chocolate Cheesecake at Barnes and Noble yesterday afternoon when I had a little one-hour escape from the caretaking did anything but help me feel better!)
Note on the hearts mobile: I didn't actually make a mobile but just hung them from our dining room light. And I ended up doing most of the sewing yesterday while sitting on the couch with Rose. My poor sick kids didn't have much interest! Oh well, it was very relaxing for me. I do love the Waldorf style handwork projects. Since many can be made by children, they're so simple and satisfying to make, and the natural materials like wool felt are so beautiful.

I read your comment/question on soulemama's blog about bread machines and had to come say hello! I received a "Breadman" bread machine for a college graduation gift in 1997 and it is STILL going strong. I've never had a problem with it and have really beat the heck out of it. I felt guilty using it for a few years, but since I wasn't taking the time to make bread by hand, I started using it again and love it. Can't wait to try Amanda's WHO bread recipe.
Your blog is lovely and I sure hope you feel better soon!
Best, Carrie
