I'm on the upswing now but have been sick since Saturday. I did get to Barnes and Noble to skim through most of In Defense Of Food by Michael Pollan on Saturday morning, but that's about the last thing I did before taking to my bed for three days. It was the worst sore throat I can remember! And fever, aches, pains, stomach nausea, the whole deal. Well, it could've been worse I'm sure.
I went to my chiropractor, Dr. Mike Svensson, yesterday for an adjustment. That really helped me turn the corner on this thing. I decided I should do an ad campaign for him: "Dr. Mike always makes me feel worse. But that's okay, because then I feel better." It's true! Immediately after seeing him, getting all straightened out (and he does this very gently, mind you) and having my sinuses massaged and re-pressurized or whatever it is he does, I do feel worse. This is because, as he says, my body can mount an even bigger immune response when it's all in order. My throat got redder and hotter, my fever went up just a bit, and I took myself right to bed (well, after picking Rose up at school after she somehow managed to have a temp. of 99.4 just at the time she went to the nurse's office; not sure how but she was pretty dang fine when she got home!). After my nap, I felt remarkably better. Just enough to be really cranky, just like the kids when they're turning the corner on an illness and starting to get over it.
Then this morning, I was awake at 4 a.m., tired of all that sleeping. Still a bit cranky, but feeling much better. In fact, the sore throat is just about gone. So now, I'm off to Crafts Direct to get knitting needles for a hat I want to make. Murphy's Law: even though I have the right size needles somewhere (after all, I have just about every size since I did own a yarn shop at one time), I can not find them for the life of me so I have to go buy another set for this project. This happens every time I want to knit something new. At least I have enough yarn in my stash to not have to buy any of that for a good long time. And I really don't. Buy much yarn, that is.
Good day!
