Just a quick few notes. Today's a work day so I only have a few minutes...
An update on my Dr. visit last week:
My bone density is unchanged from last year and is good. Yay!
My calcium level has gone DOWN, also good news though until it's normal I'm still in trouble. The normal range for blood calcium is 9-10.5 and these numbers are very strict--shouldn't go at all below or above them. My latest reading is 11.1 milliliters/deciliters (ml/dl, I think that's the right unit of measurement). That's down from 11.7 last April, and I believe when I first found out about this condition three years ago I was in the 12-point-something range. So, steady progress down is good but my Dr. is still unconvinced, I believe, that I'm going to hit normal without the surgery. We'll see. Maybe I'll be the first one she's seen to do that, and I can be a "poster child" for alternative therapies or something! I'd love that.
My Vit. D level is 25 and it should be 30 or above (not sure on this unit of measurement). I'm to continue taking my Cod Liver Oil, 1 Tablespoon a day, and add another 800 iu's/day in capsule form. That's a lot of D! It will help my body absorb calcium better...which reminds me...I just took my tablespoonful now. Down the hatch! Eww, yuck! Actually, I take Carlson brand lemon-flavored CLO and honestly it's not too bad. I have been forgetting it a lot lately, so have to jump back on the bandwagon and remember every day. (Warning: Soapbox again...Everyone should take Cod Liver Oil! It helps with so many things, and is especially needed in the winter. Most of us are deficient in Vit. D and study's are implicating the lack of it in many problems including macular degeneration, cancer, Autism, autoimmune diseases, etc. Cod Liver Oil is hardly a supplement, it's a food, and just about every traditional northern culture included it or the actual fatty fish in their diet.)
I have been seriously worried about my mood lately. It's January! It's dark and cold and I'm tired of it. We've had so many below zero days this month. This weekend it's supposed to warm up into the 20s and 30s above zero, however, so that may help.
Also, I get to hang out with my W.E.T. friends on Saturday. We're going to Nikki's house for a potluck, book and clothing swap, and lots and lots of chatting. And I'm quite sure chocolate will be involved, as well.
That will happen after Rose's piano contest at prescisely 11:36 a.m. at the College of St. Benedict's Art Center. Wish her luck! (Or, to break a leg or whatever it is that's okay to wish a pianist before a performance.)
Then on Sunday we will be at St. Cloud's first "Barnaloppet", a Nordic Ski Race for the kids. The Sons of Norway, the Nordic Ski Club and our own Minnesota Youth Ski League are sponsoring it. Should be fun! The weather will be nice and there will be lots of kids to watch. Hopefully George and I will get some ski time in, too.
I'll report more on those events later this weekend. Now I'm seriously needing to get dressed for work as I have to be there in 20 minutes!
