An Angel Story
By Lisa Zahn

I have been wishing I could write a story as beautiful as the experience I’m about to describe. I cannot. Plain and simple, Rose and I saw an angel this year.

Our experience happened one wintry afternoon. Rose was sick with a high fever and she was lying in my bed. I lay there with her in the dim room, concerned, holding her and praying for her to get better soon. And what happened next is as simple as this: at one point, the sleeping Rose murmured “where did she go?” I quietly asked “where did who go?” and looked to the corner of the room Rose was facing. At that moment, I saw in my mind an image of an angel. She looked a lot like Rose, a small child with long, golden wavy hair. She wore a creamy dress and had large wings. She glowed creamy white and golden. Her arms reached out to Rose, but in an instant she was gone.

I thought it was just my imagination. Surely I didn’t see an angel! I didn’t even think much about it at the time, just wondered who the “she” was that Rose spoke of. But when I tried to ask Rose about it in the following weeks, she wouldn’t tell me a thing. So I left it at that until one day I decided to tell her what I had seen. Thanks to my friend Debbie‘s encouragement, I had grown confident that my vision wasn’t just my imagination. And when Rose burst out excitedly saying, “Mom, that‘s exactly what I saw!”, I knew I was right.

Now, I’ve always had a spiritual side. I’ve almost always believed in God, and I really like the Bible as a collection of sometimes fascinating (other times not so much) stories. But I never paid much attention to angels, though I knew the Bible and the sacred writings of nearly every major religious tradition are filled with stories of them.
Until I saw an angel myself.

What’s the point of telling you our angel story? I’ve been asking myself that one, too. You’ll probably say to yourself, “oh that crazy Lisa. Always got her head in the clouds.” And maybe you’re right. But somehow I’ve felt very compelled to tell this. I think an angel story is a message that we’re not alone. Besides the Scriptures, I’ve discovered that there are hundreds of books full of people’s personal experiences of angels. There are also angel figurines, angel jewelry, angel paintings, angel sculptures, angel music and so much more out there. A lot of people, it seems, either know and/or believe we are not alone. They often say kids see angels more easily than adults so I feel privileged to have been gifted for a second with Rose’s vision.

Rose and I both saw that angel. Possibly Rose’s Guardian Angel. “She was helping me, Mom,” Rose said. And I believe her.

“Then I looked, and I heard the voice of angels surrounding the throne and the living creatures and the elders; they numbered myriads of myriads and
thousands and thousands…”

a great experience, recently I woke in the middle of the night to see a tallmisty white figure standing at the end of my bed, their hands held together as if in prayer,I had been concerned about a chronic illness I suffer. After that I didn´t feel so concerned, what will be will be.Do you think it a posibility that with the high fever your daughter stepped out of her body (Astral projection) Blessings

Thanks for your comment. Astral travel is a possibility, though since I have experienced that and this was much more conscious I feel I was given more of a conscious vision, however. Which is cool, since in the past my "spiritual experiences" have been more auditory than visual. I'm happy for any of it, true gifts from heaven and always "out of the blue", totally unexpected and unrequested.

My daughter may have been traveling in her sleep/dreams/fever state, though, which all of us Zahns seem to do a lot. My husband the most! He tells me of some amazing dream experiences.

The 7 Areas for Reduction

Today I want to write just a snippet on each of the 7 areas where we're reducing our consumption. See the Riot for Austerity page to learn more. 1. Electricity. No major sacrifices. We're still watching TV a little and I'm online way too much trying to keep up with this group (my latest obsession), but we're now turning both off at the power strip when they're not in use, instead of just at night when we go to bed. Also, many more appliances are getting unplugged when not in use. 2. Heating and Cooking Energy. We are using the a/c today due to temps in the 90s and very high humidity. That is my general rule for a/c use and always has been-it has to be over 90 degrees F. and humid. Tonight when the predicted cold front passes through we'll turn it off for at least the next week of predicted 80s. 3. Gasoline. I'm biking the 2.5 miles to work every time I work, Monday, Wednesday, Friday. George is biking the 3 miles to the health club for his aerobic w...

America a Military Police State--Now Obvious to Minnesotans

From my friend Devin's blog, The Quince Urban Homestead . They and others in the Twin Cities are much more aware of what's going on down there than we are an hour north. News reports are incomplete and, of course, skewed to the "need for order" and fear tactics. Of course we don't want violence, but come on! Has it come to this? This could be my family! Or anyone's family, simply doing their thing...Read on...(emphases are mine) Some links first: Youtube Video Twin Cities Daily Planet news with photo Flickr photos Happenings at the RNC here in St.Paul Minnesota. Initially the police told the people on the bus to exit. When the people on the bus asked if they wer...
